Swan River Deck – Perth Western Australia

Oceanis worked in collaboration with ArM Architects and Northstar Developments to create an ambitiously unique design for a large floating swimming lagoon at Perth’s Swan River Elizabeth Quay.

Designed to be an entertainment precinct as well as a place to swim and relax in the city, the river deck design responded to the technical challenges of being beneficial for the environment by promoting mixing and movement of water around Elizabeth Quay, filtering river water and providing improved habitats for local fish species.  It is a true environmentally regenerative design.

The Deck’s form and function are inspired by the Swan River’s unique morphology and the idea of water play. Designed as a lagoon connected to the river, its surface is generated by the inception of the splash, creating multiple water pools, a ‘sand-bar’ area to sunbake and to stay dry.
