KAUST-NEOM Coral Restoration Initiative at Shushah Island — Coral Aquaria
Project Information
Designed to be a facility where tourists can explore reef species and environments, and in which researchers can work and interact with state-of-the-art technology, whilst both also having direct access to the reef.
Oceanis has led the client through the entire development process for this new state-of-the-art marine research station on coral restoration in the Red Sea.
Oceanis has worked in support of the client from the initiation of the project managing a brief development process and concept design process. We then worked with the architecture and engineering team to develop construction documentation. The facility includes dry and wet labs, ancillary technical support spaces, 3D printing labs, a major scientific aquaria lab with an associated water quality lab, plankton and other food preparation facilities, and support workshops.
Support facilities include office space, visitor interaction spaces, mechanical and electrical workshops, marine operations staging and support areas, and dive support facilities.
Oceanis also designed all the aquaria tank areas, life support systems, seawater intake and discharge systems, and a sophisticated automated control and monitoring system.
The project is now under construction.
