Cockburn Aquatics and Recreation Precinct
Project Information
“Oceanis’ consultancy for the City of Cockburn has identified savings of up to $150,000 per year and reductions in GHG emissions of approximately 430 tonnes of CO2/year.”
Included among a host of features at Cockburn ARC are a range of indoor and outdoor pools, leisure pools, water slides, therapy and recovery pools in one of the largest aquatic centres in Australia and home of the Fremantle Dockers football club.
The centre opened in 2017 to great acclaim and has been highly patronised by the local community.
This popular facility, however, has resulted in significantly greater energy use and operations and maintenance costs than had been anticipated.
The City of Cockburn engaged Oceanis to lead an Environmental Sustainability Initiatives project for the Cockburn ARC to review both energy use and to identify opportunities for operations efficiencies.
Oceanis’ assessment identified a range of sustainability initiatives with both long and short-term financial benefits, a range of operational improvements to address reliability, operator safety and costs, improvements to the heating systems for added energy efficiency and noise reduction initiatives to improve user amenity in the indoor pool areas; all opportunities that had not been realised through the facility’s original Design & Construct process.
The consultancy has resulted in a very successful outcome for the City of Cockburn, with the design and energy assessment identifying savings of up to $150,000 per year and reductions inGHG emissions of approximately 430 tonnes of CO2/year.
Oceanis is now conducting the design and documentation phase of the first two recommendations, in a series of improvement projects, working with the City of Cockburn to develop design and documents suitable for tender of the necessary upgrade measures.
